The internet is a great versatile medium that can be used for marketing, reaching out to
people to share your beliefs, expertise or thoughts. However, getting traffic to your website,
especially if one is a beginner, can be a challenging feat. In this article, I will be sharing with
you my six greatest tips that can help tackle this challenge and improve traffic to your
website. Without further ado, let’s get to it.
OPTIMIZE YOUR WEBSITE FOR SEARCH ENGINES
Usually referred to as Search Engine Optimization (SEO), this is a process of boosting the
visibility of your website in web search engines such as Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuck and
many others.
SEO can be categorized into two groups:
1. On-site
2. Off-site
For now I shall be focusing on On-site SEO, also known as On-page SEO. This is the
practice of optimizing elements on a website (as opposed to links elsewhere on the Internet
and other external signals as done in “off-site SEO”) in order to rank higher and earn more
relevant traffic from search engines. Off-site SEO outlined in points 2-5.
The very first stage in performing an on-site SEO is getting your website indexed by search
engines through following the process below
- Submit your URL to search engines for crawling
- Get your website indexed by search engines, i.e crawling
- Submit a sitemap of your website to search engines
- Structure data by labelling your content to help users find pages relevant to their
search.
Another aspect of on-site SEO is optimizing your website content. This can be done by:
a. Creating page titles and meta descriptions that are keyword based.
b. Creating a page for every important keyword you want to rank for. The more pages
you have, the more likely your website ranks.
c. Placing strategic search phrases (keywords) on pages and in your content. You can
also use Google AdWords to determine the keyword density of your website content
which helps in assessing how competitive your website is in search engines. This
tool can also indicate how competitive a particular keyword is.
d. Make sure your content is original and not just plagiarized from other websites
e. Submit your website to online directories
ENGAGE IN SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING

Social platforms such as Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and TikTok are
great for marketing your website. However, before I further explain on how to use these
platforms, I want to stress out that DO NOT be that person who is always EVERYWHERE
randomly posting links and spamming people. Please DO NOT!
Now, going back on how to use these platforms, you can join groups or online communities
that are in line with your niche. In these groups,
● Engage with your audience by providing them with quality suggestions or content to
their inquiries and questions about topics in line with your niche and then tag your
website link. For example, say you have a website where you blog about dogs, you
can join pet groups and give people bits of quality knowledge on “How to feed a dog,
how to potty train a dog” etc, tagging your website in your answers.
● You can also create your own group on these platforms and share bits of your
content with your website tagged. Creating your own group gives more credibility and
trust to your audience since you will be able to engage with them by answering their
questions when they have any. The more your online communities grow, the more
traffic you are able to direct to your website.
● Also, use images in your website. Not only does this make your content more
interesting, but it also gives you freedom to share images on social sites such as
Pinterest. What’s great about Pinterest is that it’s a search engine and a social media
platform at the same time; this means your posts have big chances to get shown to
Pinterest users
ENGAGE IN EMAIL MARKETING

Email marketing is a powerful content marketing technique that many eCommerce
businesses use nowadays. It can include newsletters with updates on the company, or
promotions of sales and exclusive deals for subscribers.
To set up a successful email marketing strategy, you should:
1. Signup for an email marketing provider
2. Write the emails you’ll want to send to your subscribers
3. Send weekly/monthly newsletters and updates
However, sometimes email marketing isn’t as efficient as it can be due to customers ignoring
emails. There are many reasons why customers may do this, but the most common are the
following:
● Emails fall into the spam mailbox: Some keywords in the emails are interpreted as
spam keywords and automatically listed as spam emails. Customers will not be
notified of these emails.
● Too many emails sent: Receiving too many emails will make customers feel
uncomfortable, and they are ready to throw them all in the trash, including emails
with valuable content.
● Irrelevant emails: Customers will get bored with receiving marketing emails that do
not bring value to them.
By understanding this, one can craft a more efficient email marketing strategy. Also include
these strategies in your email marketing plan:
● Understand your target audience: Regardless of the campaign, clearly defining the
target audience you want to interact with will bring high efficiency. Before using email
marketing, consider your target audience and the group of customers you want to
convey the message to. Thus, your email will be specific and bring customers certain
values.
● Filter out the less interactive email addresses: After each campaign, you need to
have an assessment to filter out the less engaged email addresses. This will help
you understand the marketing campaign’s effectiveness, improve, and be more
creative to achieve better results. Categorizing email addresses, especially if your
website is business oriented, will also help you better understand the psychology of
customers. You can then develop more suitable advertising campaigns and content
for less interactive audiences.
WRITE CATCHY IRRESISTIBLE HEADLINES
As I have outlined above, social media and emails are great tools you can use to promote
your website. But how do you plan to get people to click on your content? How to encourage
your email subscribers to actually open and read your email? How do you get customers to
click on your website link after it appears on their screens due to your excellent SEO skills?
The secret lies in creating the best title for your blog posts and an attractive subject line for
your content. How do I do this, you ask. Use the following tips:
● Use suspensive titles that leave a sense of curiosity among the viewers so that they
will be forced to click on your post.
● Use power words– these are strong, powerful words that grab someone’s attention.
Examples are; Life-changing, Glamorous, Distinguished, Timeless, Latest etc.
● Use SEO friendly starts like “Tp10.. ./How to…/50 ways…/Tips on how to….” etc
● Use 16 to 18 words at most. Nobody likes a paragraph-long title.
TRY GUEST BLOGGING
Guest blogging is an activity that involves writing and publishing content on other blogs in
order to get backlinks. Writing blog posts for another blog that’s related to your
specialization/industry provides you with the opportunity to showcase your expertise to the
readers of other blogs, get some extra traffic and earn backlinks as well. Backlinks are links
embedded in other websites that point back to your website . Having backlinks will tell the
search engine that your website is authoritative and this will lead to a better ranking in the
search engines.
Start by approaching blog owners that relate to your industry, and offer to guest blog for
them for free (if they are offering remuneration for your services , it doesn’t hurt to accept it
too!)
Once they accept you can then approach them about linking back to your site – this can help
you drive customers to your site and business.
CREATE UNIQUE QUALITY CONTENT
Having catchy headlines and a keyword optimized website only won’t increase traffic to your
website. Your content should be of fine quality and memorable to viewers. Quality content is
something that is one step ahead of the reader. It answers their initial query plus answers
any questions they may have along the way while reading.
Content is considered quality when it meets the following standards:
● Well researched and authentic
● Has value and impact to reader
● Addresses reader’s queries
● Well written, cohesive and understandable
● Organized and keeps reader engaged
Another side tip on producing quality content is don’t be vague and shallow in your posts’
content. Call a spade a spade. Nothing makes a reader lose interest more than an
incongruent, shallow and vague post. Imagine seeing a title like “The Ultimate Guide On
How To Increase Traffic On Your Website” only to find two or three shallow points!
Well, there you have it– my six great tips on how to boost traffic to your website. Granted,
they won’t magically increase your traffic overnight but with consistency and effort you will
surely see improvements!
Cheers!
